Wife Gives Birth While Husband is Across the Country

From The Donkey

The Plot Thickens

I am sitting here on the plane writing this post and contemplating a movie idea. Here’s the storyline:

A guy gets roped into another one of his wife’s family reunions across the country. He has 3 little kids that have to also make the trip. His wife is 6 months pregnant and can’t help much as they prepare for their “vacation.” Just as this poor guy starts coordinating the trip, his wife’s blood pressure skyrockets and she is put on bed rest by the doctor. He now has to make the trip alone with his 3 kids for his wife’s reunion. While at the reunion, he gets a call from his wife in the middle of the night: her blood pressure has reached 200 and she was admitted to the hospital to deliver the baby nearly 11 weeks early. And just for kicks, let’s say the baby is breached and she has to get a C-section. The baby is then born and only weighs 2 pounds and 13 ounces and doctors can only speculate at what implications the early delivery will have on the life of the baby. The husband then rushes back across the country with his 3 kids while his wife worries at the hospital alone. For an element of drama, we’ll assume that the baby will stay in the hospital for up to 2 months and the wife is also in for 4 days in case her blood pressure doesn’t normalize. What happens in the end? You’ll have to wait for the movie.

What do you think? Sound like a good plot? Oh wait; I am living through this right now.  What genre would you put this film into–Horror?  Action?  Thankfully, so far it looks to be on track for a “happily ever after.”

We’ll keep you posted…

  9. I just had my 30th birthday earlier this month and my due date was close to the end of October. When I came out I was totally scrawny and still covered in lanugo. I remember I weighed a bit more than your newest one–3 lbs, 4 oz–and in 1978 there wasn’t much hope for that at all.
However, here I am, and aside from a nasty mean streak I’m known for on construction sites, I’m doing okay.
Nonetheless, yes that sounds like a fantastic story, and I’ll send it on so others can send prayer & good thoughts toward “happily ever after” too.

  10. Wow. Perhaps fiction writing would be a little easier on your wife. Congrats, good luck, and I hope some friends & relatives can stop by to help with kids and a few meals from time to time (that really is the best present, isn’t it?). Rest up, both of you!

  11. Wow, that’s a pretty gripping tale. That’ll teach her for sending you to her reunion alone with the 3 kids!

Seriously, praying that all is well.
