Forgotten Anniversary–Date Night Giveaway (Blog Contest)
Celebrate A Day Late

Yesterday was our 9th anniversary. It may or may not come as a surprise to anyone that we forgot it was coming up; once we realized it was coming up this week, we got the days mixed up; once we realized it was yesterday, we tried throwing plans together to go out to lunch, but that didn’t materialize; so yesterday basically passed us by without celebration.
To make up for it, we are going to celebrate our anniversary today, by giving away a date night package.

You know, we were like that too! We have a hard time with last minute dates (or any dates for that matter!) because we have a 1-year old son, but sometimes after he goes to bed we make a fire in our fire bowl in the backyard, have some wine and popcorn and just talk. It feels like we’re somewhere else sometimes

How about a nice picnic by a lake? That’s too funny that you both forgot about your anniversary…The year after my son was born we did the same thing! Except, come to think of it, we never made up for it! LOL! Congrats on 9 years…My hubby and I are working on our 5th and haven’t killed each other yet, so I count that as doing pretty good!LOL! Happy Anniversary!

Well, we don’t do many date nights, let alone unplanned ones, but now that our son is old enough to stay home and babysit, my husband and I do sometimes get the chance to slip out of the house together. It might originally start with the idea that we are just going to go out and pick up some groceries, but then the possiblity is that that we might just slip into Starbucks in Barnes and Noble for a drink and some dessert. Very simple and improptu, but it works for us.
By Michelle on Jul 31, 2008
rent some movies and have a quiet night at home.
have a nice dinner and after the kids go to sleep, have sometime for yourselves.
By brandy w on Jul 31, 2008
We forgot our anniversary too! So we stopped and got a bottle of wine and went to sit at the lake in the dark, it was the best anniv in a long time! Congrats!
By LUCINDA H on Jul 31, 2008
Last minute date idea? well this is a favorite or mine =) Have a picnic at a state park (or pretty outdoor area if you don’t have a state park in your area) Thanks for offering this!
By Sarai on Jul 31, 2008
My favorite date night, and one that is usually free, is to go and walk around the Art Gallery in Baltimore. It is a nice time to be “adults” and take in some culture, which we rarely get. Dinner/lunch is typically on the agenda as well. But it is nice adult time!

Last minute date idea…rent a movie and take out!
By Betsy on Jul 31, 2008
Switch son to daughter in Michelle’s comment above, and that’s pretty much word for word. Well, minus the grocery shopping. DH is quite the impulse shopper & unless we’re on vacation that usually stresses me…
By Sonya on Jul 31, 2008
I think the best dates are where you don’t have to “do” anything, but can just sit and talk and reconnect. So maybe a stop at your local ice cream parlor for ice cream or malts and sitting together on a blanket in the park for the reconnection would work. Thanks for the giveaway!

A quick date night for us recently turned out great. We each took $40 and went to our regular grocery store…but we weren’t allowed to buy anything we regularly buy! We shopped separately and waited til we got home to share! We got some nice treats and fancy goodies, but didn’t break the budget since it all got eaten! From smoked oysters to Dibs…it was all fun. And DH spent $8 of his on flowers for me!
By Rhonda Mason on Jul 31, 2008
Last minute date idea (one I just did three nights ago!):
Go out for an ice cream soda. Two straws!
By Carol on Jul 31, 2008
Do you live near water? I love signing up for dinner cruises or just cruises around the lake. Would be romantic and something out of the ordinary.
By Trisha on Jul 31, 2008
A couple things we like to do for last minute dates are, go to the furniture store and furnish our dream house, go pick up some sandwiches and go to the park (it is SO much more fun without kids!), go out for ice cream, go to a movie…so many fun things to do!
Happy Anniversary!!!
By Kim on Jul 31, 2008
My husband and i just celebrated out first wedding anniversary! He took me to Greune, Tx ( Its historic and was featured in some movies, one being Phenomenon). We stayed at a super nice bed and breakfast, ate dinner at a nice restaurant and did a wine tasting! It was very nice.

Happy 9th Anniversary! We just celebrated our 14th and boy has time just flown by!
One of things that we forgot how to to do is have dates! Between work and kids and finances, we just don’t seem to be able to pull it off!
We could sooooooooooooooo use this RIGHT NOW! Please enter me…
Thanks!

An impromptu picnic on the living room floor makes me happy as a last-minute date… just spread a blanket, light some candles, and there you go. Even better if you have a fireplace!
By ToilingAnt on Jul 31, 2008
We put the kids to bed and play Tiger Woods playstation golf and eat a snack. Boring to some, fun for us.
By Stacy on Jul 31, 2008
When we were young and quite broke, we used to hire a babysitter and walk the mall. It’s a cheap, last minute date, but if you hold hands an look into each other’s eyes, it can be a great last minute (or planned!) date.

We are foster parents and have adopted 3 kids, so our life often spins out of control. Not often do we get to go out, so our favorite thing to do when all is suddenly quiet and all are well behaved is to send all the kids to one bedroom and let them build a tent. They drape blankets and sheets everywhere–from bed to dresser and throw all the sleeping bags underneath. I throw in a tray of munchie foods, the dog and a few games. They are “locked in” for the rest of the night and my husband and I have the entire downstairs to ourselves for the rest of the evening. It’s great!

Last weekend, we celebrated our 11th Anniversary (a week late OOPS) by going out to eat. We decided to go only a day or two before and set up for my parents to keep the kiddos for a while. It was great fun and something that we should probably do more often. Our actual anniversary night was spent at McDonald’s letting the kids play in the playplace!
By Christy @ Chrysler Creek on Jul 31, 2008
when my husband and i were dating and didn’t want to spend a lot of money, we’d grab a quick taco somewhere and head to the river in austin. we’d just sit and eat our dinner and watch the gorgeous scenery–water, ducks, turtles. it was great.
By groovyteach on Jul 31, 2008
With a 10-month-old our idea of a last minute date is popcorn and a movie once she is in bed.
By Kristy on Jul 31, 2008
aww, that stinks!
I don’t think you have to do anything super special, be active. go put-putting. Go hit slow pitch softballs. (don’t knock it it is hilarious!) then go get Ritters afterwards.
By karissa on Jul 31, 2008
go on a nice long drive and have a meal under the stars, with candles

Well, let’s see, a last minute date could be a movie at home, a picnic, i can’t come up with anything too creative. . .:(
By Kelly on Jul 31, 2008
Its kinda sappy but reenact your first date. Try to recapture all the ambiance and as many details as possible. If you took her to a movie, try finding the movie and watch it when the kids are in bed.
I bet she would love it.
By Joe on Jul 31, 2008
Happy Anniversary. Our nineth is next Thursday. Small world. On our anniversary every year we get a bottle of champaign and watch our wedding video. If we can’t get a sitter it doesn’t matter (the kids LOVE watching it) if life happens we can still make time for it (even if last minute0 and we often celebrate in if possible other ways but that is our constant.
GREAT contest!!!

By Tiffany on Jul 31, 2008
You guys can take a day out and do something simple like pick a recipe and cook together
That could get really fun. If you want to go out, find some touristy things to do in your area and go on a date to a museum, local theater and view a live performance or something like that
Great giveaway!
By reeva on Jul 31, 2008
As long as you don’t do it too often because no one likes short notices all the time, use your in-laws to your advantage! Most grandparents would love a day or weekend with the grandkids, giving you time to skip away somewhere, even if it’s back to your own house for a romantic weekend. Heck, use your kids’ friends to get some time away, too. Sleepovers are great chances to get time away.
By Cassandra Brown on Jul 31, 2008
This would be great. My hubby and I haven’t had a date night in months. A last minute date would be a nice hike along a trail.
By LadySnow on Jul 31, 2008

By chelsea on Jul 31, 2008
Last-minute dates are pretty much all we have! They occur when the baby unexpectedly falls asleep. We grab a movie and dinner (our favorite is pizza we make and sometimes we have popcorn) and cuddle together on the couch. It may not sound like a real date but we like it and it saves us money!

Don’t feel bad, you’re certainly not alone. Our 9th anniversary was in January and both my husband and I forgot about it until a week later!
I guess dinner and a movie is a good last minute idea. Or even just go out for an appetizer or dessert. Maybe snuggle on the couch and watch a movie at home.
Happy Belated Anniversary, by the way!

Hmm there are some great ideas there. We like to bring a basket, go to the grocery store and pack a fun picnic meal (have to be creative) then head to a park and enjoy a meal and walk:) Don’t forget a decadent dessert (either there or on the way home).
By Anissa on Jul 31, 2008
When we had a power outage, the kids went to bed early (couldnt see anything anyways) we light a ton of tea lights and sat on the couch and just talked forever, there was no distraction, the flickering lights made for a calm and romantic setting it was very nice.

Wanna know what we enjoy doing on date night sometimes? Going out to dinner and then browsing at a book store! It is a luxury to get to look at books we want without hearing our kids calling for us! Sometimes we even grab a coffee!
By Christi on Jul 31, 2008
Sometimes, we just put the kids to bed, take a bubble bath and spend the rest of the evening eating ice cream right out of the carton! But my all time favorite “instant” date night is when my husband and I fold the laundry while watching a movie! We have a great time together and talk a lot.
By Dotti on Jul 31, 2008
A trip to a local museum or art gallery, followed by a trip to a coffee shop or ice cream shop. Cheap, interactive, and open-ended.

We like “date night” to be just us, no crowded restaurants or shops full of people. We love to take a picnic and a bottle of wine to the lake and then take a walk and watch the sunset – or even just picnic at the park and then feed the ducks. We just make sure to go late enough that most everyone else has already gone home. Just him and me beneath that big starry sky!
Happy Anniversary! And thanks for the chance to win your great giveaway!
By Kimberly on Jul 31, 2008
Pretty much all of our dates are last minute nowadays. We pop popcorn, get soda, and sit on the couch together to watch a dvd. Not very exciting, but at least it’s some time together.

My 2 year anniversary is in a month, and dinner and a movie would be perfect. A good last minute date idea- we like to hit a resaraunt just for dessert. Its quick and you get to try the yummy desserts that you are usually too full to order.
By Nancy on Jul 31, 2008
We haven’t had a real date night in awhile – with a 3 year old and another little boy on the way in less than a month it makes it hard to plan. On the couple of occasions when our little guy stays at my parents’ house we usually go to a nice restaurant (they usually have a menu and you order without having to pay up front – hahaha) and go out shopping just to browse. Nothing special but it’s nice to have alone time without being interrupted by a 3 year old.
By Tanya on Jul 31, 2008
I would probably order in, get a movie and just spend a quiet night. Either that or go out for supper and then for a walk in a nice area where you live,(park, hiking trails whatever).

For us, we just enjoy being together. We usually go out to dinner at Cheesecake Factory, and then rent movies for home. Or we will plan a nice dinner at home, and I will cook.

By Marie on Jul 31, 2008
Last minute date idea that would make my husband a very happy man…
Either a quick stop at costco for a pre-made “reheat me” gourmet dinner and cheesecake or order out for chinese and grab a cake, a rose, and bottle of wine or champagne on the way home.
Candlelit room with a vase and the rose. Do a verbal card instead of the hallmark variety since you both forgot(tell each other why you love one another- 9th anniversary=9 special things about the other person) and renew your vows. Toast to your success.
Enjoy the night on a bed of pillows spread with fresh rose petals from the rose you got and soft blankets on top after a luxurious bubble bath/shower!!
Congratulations on 9 years!
By GrnMtnGirl on Jul 31, 2008
Go to the local mall. Grab something to go from the food court. Find a bench and people watch. You can check out all the young couples and reminisce about how things used to be. You can create voices for the passers-by and carry on conversations in their behalf. If you want to kick it up a notch, you could bring a camera and take a bunch of pictures with total strangers to celebrate your anniversary.

We love to just go to a restaurant or movie for a last minute date. Or if we can’t get a sitter we bring fancy food home and eat it on the floor in front of the TV and a movie. Soemtimes we do something like wander around Target and dream about all the things we’d buy if we had no impluse control.

Here are a couple of ideas:
1- Have an icecream sculpting contest. Get a block of icecream for each of you, spoons, knives and toppings!
2- Create your own inside golf course. My parents did this one year for their anniversary and my husband and I did this the other night. Get some plastic cups, a putter, and golf balls and be creative. I created a ramp up to the bed with pizza boxes and made the end in the drain in the bath tub. It is so much fun!

Last minute dates are hard, especially when you have children, and where you are pregnant too I am sure that doesn’t add to the convenience level. What about something like a couples massage (I’ve never had one, but I hear they are great) along with lunch to your favorite small restaurant. This is something that would work great on a Saturday and you could spend the day with each other!

Hmm… date night? What’s that?
One of you can put the kids to bed while the other runs to grab take-out. Get ready for an indoor picnic (or if you live somewhere where you can still enjoy the outdoors in the evenings, an outdoor picnic!) and then cuddle on the couch and talk :0
Happy belated anniversary!
By Fedora on Jul 31, 2008
After reading all your comments, I’ve gotten some great idea for my husband and I.
I can’t remember the last date night. Our anniversary, is on Valentine’s Day (easy for him to remember), but we never go out on it because EVERYONE in town goes out that night. If I only could change the date by a week, we’d celebrate. LOL

happy belated anniversary!! how about a nice picnic? or dinner and a movie yourselves?? or maybe some mini-golf!?!
By Kristine J. on Jul 31, 2008
We love to grab dinner then go walk in our local park on the water and since I am pregnant there is ice cream involved!! Thanks!!

It is so hard to schedule a date night sometimes. My husband works odd hours so sometimes for a little romance we put our daughter to sleep and then we just take a nice bottle of wine and some music out on the patio. It is romantic, inexpensive and a great way to be able to talk, snuggle and sometimes even dance.
By Mia J. on Jul 31, 2008
I think an anniversary should be fun, whatever you do. Something that either really makes you laugh or pleases you in other aspects
If I only had a night out, I’d go to an arcade and play some air hockey, foosball, etc. or somewhere with a basketball hoop and play some horse. Miniature golfing, Mexican restaurant with some margaritas or beer.
I gag at typical romance stuff. I say have fun together.
By Shannon on Jul 31, 2008
If you’re as budget conscious as we are, I suggest you keep it inexpensive. It’s about the experience, not the expense anyway. I suggest you (where possible) send the kids to grandma’s for the night and have your own over night getaway at your own house. You can buy some finishing touches such as pillow mints and flowers. Just disconnect yourselves from the outside world. Have a picnic in the backyard. Make a nice dinner. Use candles, napkins, and table cloths. Dress up nice. Sleep in the next day. Why pay for a bed-and-breakfast?
By Vatermann on Jul 31, 2008
We have three kids so it is not so easy to get out for a full date night. We enjoy eating dinner with our little ones, putting them to bed and then having a babysitter come.
We go to a local coffee shop and order an expensive piece of cheesecake and share it. Fun!
By Lori on Jul 31, 2008
Oh my husband and I could REALLY use this!!!! I mean REALLY REALLY REALLY!!!!
Our last minute date idea is actually going to happen tomorrow. My husband is able to slip out of work early tomorrow so we’ll have about 3 hours of Mommy and Daddy time before the kids get home from camp so we are going to go out to lunch then head on over to the river and take a nice long walk.
THANK YOU for this giveaway!!!! This is a fabulous idea!!!

Rent a movie and just snuggle on the couch, just you and him. Nothing’s better than spending time alone.
By Courtney on Jul 31, 2008
We have yet to get out since the twins were born (21 months ago) so I forget even what that is like! Our last minute date nights usually consisted of family guy on dvd and ordering pizza and wings after the kids went to bed.
By Brianne on Jul 31, 2008
My kids are 15 and 12 and we still have problems making time for a date night….when we do – it’s usually last minute and we just go to dinner and/or a movie.
By Angela on Jul 31, 2008
My husband and I also had our 9th anniversary last month! We took the 3 kids out with us for Japanese Hibachi for dinner, not romantic but it was fun. Next year we’ll have to get a babysitter for our soon to be 4 kids and I’d like to go out to dinner and then take some ice cream to eat outside at a nice park. We don’t get out much!
By Heather on Jul 31, 2008
Um….what’s a date night?….*LOL*…just hard to get one of those around here.
But a fun one that takes almost no planning and almost no money is to go downtown in your city and act like a tourist. Get a map and go to the visitor center and get brochures and look around at all the buildings and historic sites.
You’ll be so surprised at things that are going on in your own town that you didn’t know about or just never had the time to go see.

Our last minute dates are usually renting a movie and ordering something to eat.
By Janet F on Jul 31, 2008
AHHHHHHHHHHH! A date night?! With my husband?! Whoa! I think it has been a whole year since we’ve had a REAL date. Usually our dates consist of locking ourselves in our big closet with a blanket, laying there listening to our 2 and 4 year old run around the house as we talk and cuddle. A real DATE out would be stupendous!
We had a last minute date for our 6th anniversary last year. My husband rented a convertible and whizzed me around downtown San Francisco during a warm summer night…..such sweet memories….
We’d be over-joyed to win! Thanks for the opprotunity!
By Amanda on Jul 31, 2008
Date??? What’s that? I just “celebrated” my 14′th anniversary on the 16th and we didn’t do anything simply because we didn’t have the money. Sigh… last minute dates can be so much fun.
A great last minute (cheap) date is to grab hubby (find a sitter for the kids if you need one) and find a coffee shop you’ve never tried before… I bet you’ll find a new favorite this way and most coffee shops have cozy, quiet places to just sit, have a coffee or tea and remind each other all over again why you fell in love. Talk about your dreams… sometimes we forget these when we get married, talk about anything positive and leave all the other things for another time.

Our anniversary is Sunday
One of our favorites is an indoor date. We rent a couple of movies, go to the grocery store and pick up some of our favorite junk foods and head home. We put the kids to bed. Then we put the air mattress in the livingroom, eat our junk and watch our movies. We sleep there that night, too. It’s fun camping out in the livingroom
By Paula H on Jul 31, 2008
If you are unable to get a sitter I would wait until the children are in bed, bring out a yummy chocolate dip with fresh strawberries,a bottle of chilled wine or champagne and put on some soft music.
I love just getting to spend some quality quite time with my husband best.
Thank you so much for offering this wonderful giveaway.
I would LOVE to win !!

I would love this! We love to walk around downtown people watching and just talking. Love it!
By maggie on Jul 31, 2008
My husband and I like to do dinner and coffee instead of dinner and a movie. We go to a local coffee shop and sit outside and talk. In the summer we do dinner and ice cream. It’s a great chance to unwind and talk.
By Someone Being Me on Jul 31, 2008
Go to the video store and rent a season of a show that you both like to watch. While you’re out, go to the grocery store and buy obscene amounts of candy, ice cream, soda, chips, and chocolate. Go home and watch while you gorge yourselves, gab over the TV, and have a great time.
By Jaime C. on Jul 31, 2008
There is a dance studio not far from my house. Wednesday is drop-in night. After some hesitation, my husband agreed to check it out with me and we had a great time. No one there was a super dancer, it was just couples trying to sneak a little time with each other. We have gone a couple of times and we always stop for gelato on the way home.

We went to a winery and listened to the music. We brought a picnic basket with us and had a wonderful time. We have also made a gourmet dinner at home, ate on the fine china, put on some soft music and danced. Another night we went for a ride on our Harley and ate a candy bar under the stars. Thanks for a great giveaway.

I think you should dress to the nines and go out for a night on the town. Make a reservation at the nicest restaurant and celebrate your anniversary like it should be celebrated.
By Shelley on Jul 31, 2008
Most of our “dates” are last minute and usually mean either just eating out or else wandering around some store we normally would not buy from but just to look at what is there. One example is this really expensive plumbing store. Not your usual plumbing store, but rather one that has kitchens and baths set up in gold, pearl, unique designs etc. No way can we afford a 1000 faucet, but sure was fun to look!

We celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary in February. Happy 9th anniversary and may you have many more! It might be fun to remember/ recreate some of your 1st dates. Did you eat at a certain kind of restaurant when you were first dating? Go to a similar restaurant again. Then go for a walk in a park or public garden. Go star-gazing and chat. What was one of the first movies you saw together that was memorable? Maybe you could rent it and see it together again. And most importantly, make a commitment for your next date night – preferable before your 10th anniversary! Best wishes and thanks for the opportunity to win. I discovered your blog through the Bloggy Giveaway Carnival – what fun!

We don’t have children at home now so there is no babysitter to contact. That’s a good thing! I love to have a picnic supper prepared — cheese, fruit, wine, dessert. When my husband gets home, we take right off. We live near Lake Michigan so we head to the beach, watch the boats go through the channel, walk the boardwalk holding hands, and watch the sunset go down from the pier. It works, 41 years and still counting!

One time we took his laptop and a pizza to the park. We sat in the car and watched a movie together in the backseat on the laptop. It was such fun!
The steam from the pizza steamed up the windows. We were almost done watching the movie when a Sherrif deputy came by and rapped on our window. I think he was expecting to find two teenagers half naked.
Instead we were sitting there eating pizza and watching a movie and drinking coke. I am sure he got a kick out of telling that story back at the station! He said to us, Oh enjoy the show. Park closes at 10:00. Be sure to close the gate if you are later than that.
It was a great date.
Thanks for having the Giveaway!

What a great way to get date ideas….last minute date night would typically be dinner somewhere not too expensive and close to home…but a dream last minute date would be a picnic with drive through food and a portable cd player with music to dance by. THAT would be a fun date to me and it doesn’t require much at all. Then, maybe on the way home just a little bit of parking…just for fun
Hope you have a great anniversary!

Ok, I had about 15 responses run through my head, none of which really answered your question (“Date? Ice cream, coffee, doughnuts… Then find a quiet place to sit together and enjoy it.

Dinner and a movie are always great last minute date night ideas. Taking a walk in the park is nice, too. Or window-shopping. Okay, maybe he doesn’t like window-shopping, but if you’re planning something together, a new color for the living room or some new artwork, this can be fun, as long as it’s something you’re doing together. My husband always suggests bowling (to me and the kids) and we always (almost always) say no. One day I’ll surprise him and say yes! Thanks for offering a great giveaway.

the other is actually to do in the morning or at dusk — go for a walk – get your kids on their bikes or roller blades – let them go a bit ahead of you if they are a tad older – hold hands and enjoy the air and your family.

From the sounds of your funny blog titles, I have no doubt that you’ll have no trouble thinking of a fun anniversary date! When we were first married, a couple in their 50s (married 30 years) said that early in their marriage, they agreed not to buy anniv gifts for each other, but rather, to decide together and buy a nice item for the house every anniv. They said it worked out great! Instead of clutter, they have heirloom pieces of furniture or at least a cool La-Z-boy recliner out of the deal.
Congrats on your 9th. DH & I are celebrating our 9th anniv this Sept. Since we’re unlikely to have a babysitter between now and then, if I win, I could use this Olive Garden g.c. and movie ticket package for our 9th anniv! (We have a 5 3/4 y.o., 4 y.o., 2 y.o., and one coming around Nov. 1.)

Happy belated anniversary. My 4th anniversary is in 2 weeks so this would be great for us! We’ve had to cut back on a lot and be frugal due to financial reasons. One of our favorite last minute date ideas is taking a drive to a local dam. We stop and get some fast food on the way and eat it on the rocks at the dam as we watch the boats coming in and out. We also like to walk around the nature trail we have on a local mountain. That’s a completely free date!
We’re both photography lovers so we take pictures of each other along with the animals and scenery.

By Karen on Aug 1, 2008
You can go to a concert or to a play. That would be cool. Okay, who am i kidding, that’s not that great of an idea. I just want to win the prize.
By edgar on Aug 1, 2008
How about going back to one of your favorite spots that you had when you were first dating. Or renting a movie that you saw when you were dating.
By Jodi on Aug 1, 2008
Go to your local grocery store, each of you get $5 and one of the courses for dinner. Buy food for dinner and then pick up a movie from Redbox on the way home. Easy and fun!
By Britni on Aug 1, 2008
Put the kids to bed early, and order take out. Snuggle on the couch with dinner and a movie.

Bottle of wine (or a bottle of sparkling water if you don’t drink), an expensive cheese or two, some olives, fresh fruit, and a blanket. Add that with a beautiful outside spot or the top of the bed, and you’ve got an anniversary date that can’t be beat.
By Jhianna on Aug 1, 2008
My idea: Get some takeout and drive to a quiet spot for a little picnic. Stop at an icecream stand for dessert and share a huge sundae. Hope you have a romantic celebration!
By Colleen on Aug 1, 2008
A beautiful hike and a picnic! That’s what we did on our first anniversary
Thanks for the giveaway!

My husband and I like to rent a movie and get Chinese food. It’s a great last minute nonhassel date ( we live out in the boonies so not a lot else to do unless we go to town ). If you like to shop get your husband to take you shopping and then do something that he enjoys.
By Chrissy on Aug 1, 2008
last minute date idea?
we love painting pottery, so if we’re into spontaneous, we’ll find a babysitter, go paint pottery so we can sit and talk and have a memento of our time, then grab dessert… while we love movies, there’s just something about having something to do with your hands while you just sit and chat with your love.
By lifeasamama on Aug 1, 2008
Hmm. Last minute date idea… Hubby and I like to get a pizza and rent a couple scary movies. That way we get to cuddle even more! lol
By Josie on Aug 1, 2008
Order Chinese delivery (stuff to share especially), spread out a blanket in the living room, light some candles, turn on some romantic music. Have a picnic and then some slow dancing.

Our 8th aniversary was two weeks ago and we pretty much missed it too! My favorite date with my husband is Fishing at night or even just going down by the water for a walk. Thanks so much for the great giveaway!

Nice walk through the park, or on the beach. Thanks so much for the opportunity.
By misty w on Aug 1, 2008
In the summer it’s nice to sit outside(after the kids are in bed) and just talk as the sun goes down and it gets dark. Not very original, but very relaxing. We also like to watch shows on HGTV and discuss/critique them. I’m an interior designer and he’s into home improvement so it can get pretty funny. It’s sounding like we’re not very exciting people….. ;o)

I always bring some home made snacks on a date.
By Christina on Aug 1, 2008
A bottle of wine (or 2 beers), some chips, a blanket, and driving to a spot (you know where) to look at the stars. How’s that for last minute date?
By Sheila on Aug 1, 2008
My last minute date ideas include putting the kids to bed early, popping in a DVD, and cuddling on the couch with hubby and some popcorn, of course. Thanks for the chance to win.

excellent giveaway!… In fact it was my 9th anniversary yesterday and we did… nothing. at all.
By Tara R on Aug 1, 2008
I forgot to say going for a walk in the park is a lovely date.
By Tara R on Aug 1, 2008
Last minute we would probably just go out to dinner. Maybe a movie, too, if there was something good that we wanted to see.
By Richelle F on Aug 1, 2008
Last minute idea would go take a jog together!
By Lyssa Z. on Aug 1, 2008

Congrats on 9 years. I think a nice, last minute date idea could be a picnic in the park…even a later supper right before the sun goes down so it’s not so hot. Thanks for the giveaway!
By Nicole Price on Aug 1, 2008
Grab a bag of chips, a bottle of water and a frisbee and head to the park for a last-minute active date! Thanks for the giveaway!
By Chrysa on Aug 1, 2008
Maybe you could go to Starbucks and sit outside and have a drink by yourselves. We don’t get many date nights so I could actually use help in that field myself. lol Thank you!
By Crystal F on Aug 2, 2008
Sometimes a quiet night sitting on the back porch and talking is all the date you need.
By Melon on Aug 2, 2008
Our “dates” tend to be watching a movie at home (18-mo-old with another on the way), but one of our favorite ways to really connect is with tickle “fights” in bed at night after the little man has gone to sleep. Or is at least in his own bed!
By Princess Leia on Aug 2, 2008
If we’re short on time, we go to a local movie theater that also serves a full meal during the movie. (It’s called Movie Tavern here, but I think other cities have similar theaters.) It’s awesome because we can get in a dinner and a movie in just two hours. You just have to be able to eat in low lighting.
But we still like the more traditional dinner AND THEN a movie, too.
Thanks!
By Christina on Aug 2, 2008
Go get something nice to eat together, just nothing too fancy so you don’t have to have a reservation. If you don’t have time for a whole meal just grab dessert and go home and watch a movie or go on a walk together.
By Emily N. on Aug 2, 2008
Clueless man? You must have a lot to blog about
Anyway, our favorite dates are afternoons at Target or Sams Club, and lunch at the in-store cafes. No joke, it is a fun and easy way to spend time together, and still get the shopping done. Wish the laundry was that nice.
By Emmy T on Aug 2, 2008
It’s kind of exp, but you should go to this awesome rest in SLC called The Melting Pot! Fondu! Yummy! Plus if The Donkey starts mouthing off you have boiling cheese, oil, or chocolate to hurl at him and I hear there is a great burn center at the University of Utah!

While I think that a giveaway is a great idea to celebrate, my husband and I have celebrated our last two anniversaries by creating something. At the end of this month, we have our fifth anniversary and we are going to grab some dinner and go paint pottery together at a place where you can pick out whatever your want, paint it and they’ll glaze and fire it for you. I’m slowly making a collection of plates and he gets to make cups for himself.
By lori on Aug 2, 2008
First time to your blog, it looks like a fun read!
Awesome giveaway! Congrats on your 9th, we just celebrated ours 2 months ago.
A fun date ‘extra’ we occasionally do is go to a pet store and play with the puppies. It is free, as long as you aren’t too tempted and actually buy one!
By Mary Ellen on Aug 2, 2008
Throw together a picnic lunch and go for a walk/hike. And there is always the favorite local pizza place complete with pinball machines.
By Karin on Aug 2, 2008
Pick up fast food thru the drive thru, drive to nearest park (or grassy area) and have a picnic.

266 comments? Are you kidding me? Man there’s some hungry people who read your blog. Karl Malone doesn’t need any additional food so i think you should disqualify him from the drawing.

Dear “Sara Kelley”,
I had this great last-minute date idea for the two of us, but after reading your comment have decided to avoid upsetting you and just go out by myself. Thanks for watching the kids.

Happy Anniversary!! I was going to say that you/donkey could make a nice dinner for the other one but I wouldn’t want to create more work for you.

When I read your post about a date night, I thought about a Simpson’s episode when they were staying at a beach house. Homer wants to go to the Quickie Mart to buy some illegal fireworks, but he is a little embarassed to do it. Here’s what he says:
Homer (as he’s walking casually up to the Quickie Mart counter): “Let me have one of those porno magazines, a large box of condoms, a bottle of Old Harper, a couple of those panty shields, and some illegal fireworks, and one of those disposable enemas… eh, make it two.”
Later that night, after seeing his purchases, Marge says: “I don’t know what you’ve got planned for tonight, Homer, but count me out.”
Happy Anniversary! We celebrated our 10 year anniversary this year with Andy leaving me and the kids to go on a backpacking trip with Zak and Brian. It was not very fun for me. I think that we are in trouble!
By Mityma on Aug 4, 2008
Last minute date idea – drive separately to a restaurant and pretend you’re on a blind date just meeting.
By Karen R on Aug 4, 2008
Lat mintue date idea would be Bowling, ice skating or minature golf. I love to see if my man has a kid in him!
By Carla Pullum on Aug 4, 2008
We like to get a bucket of KFC and go to the park to people watch. We make up stories and conversations about the people we see.
By Bibby on Aug 4, 2008
Feed the kids “sausages and apple juice” then one of you put them to bed while the other runs to the nicesest reasaurant that will do curbside. Once the curbside feast is at home and the kids are snug in your bed, sit on the living room floor and have a picnic with your dinner while watching a move from the redbox.

If you want to go cheap and spontaneous take a drive up to the U on the Mountain and hike up to the U. If you walk to the middle of it and hang upside down and it looks like an oceanfront. You can take your dinner up there and eat it as you overlook the valley.
Or you can get golf balls and cover them with glow in the dark stuff from glow stick and hit them off of Ensign Peak.
Or you can go to http://www.letterboxing.org and go and find letterboxes across the valley and fill up a book.
After dinner and a fun activity if you want desert there is a cute place called Hatch’s chocolate. I heard it is run by midgets. It is on E Street and 5th Ave.
If you want to spend money, go have dinner at the Mayan in Sandy and watch the show of the divers jumping in the actual restaurant. Go to the Symphony or the Desert Star Theater. If you tell them it is your anniversary they will make you do something embarrassing. They always make a couple who are on their first date there kiss in front of the entire audience.
Go to a lakefront and talk about your first date, proposal, then your wedding day and remember your favorite memories together. Maybe read some journal entries of when you were dating. Although I doubt the Donkey has written in a journal. He might have to go off of memory.
I am not sure how many suggestions I am allowed to put on here, but I have a ton more ideas.
