If the wife is going out and cheating while the husband takes care of the kids, the husband is still being a father to his kids- not a babysitter. It annoys me to all end to hear that a parent is babysitting their own kids. There needs to be a better term- having quality time with my kids so my wife/husband can have some down time sounds way better than ah man, I can't go out with the buddies, I'm stuck at home babysitting. For some reason it has a negative connotation to it when it comes from the own parent!

it all depends on your meaning of "wife" as in my case my wife left me for another man, and i have to babysit my children not because i dont love them and want to be around them, because the assigned days now have turned from one by her chioce to five, now i work third shift 1230 am to 830 am in the morning. most times i have to stay up 16 hrs or better to help with my girls this involves getting them from school home work showers, and such which is what i was not reqiured to do when we were together , because no matter what some people think if you stay at home then thats your job, and if the man works and comes home why should he have to do your job when your there 80 percent more time then him. and to boot i have to pay her child support because she gets food stamps and medical card as we have the entire time we were together down here, so i ask why should i have to pay her to cheat on me and not be able to charge her for what she siad was her "job" her words not mine.

When the oldest child, or any child for that matter, watches the younger children, you can call THAT babysitting. Because they are not the parents. Wouldn't you find it odd if a mother said to one of her friends that she had to go home and "babysit" her children after they get home from school? How weird.

definitely not... if your wife being a mother is not babysitting then surely a husband being a father can't be either...

Though I'm sure I really shouldn't post anything, I feel like maybe the reason the dad often refers to it as "babysitting" is because he doesn't usually watch the kids. I think that's when you use the term: when you're watching kids you don't usually have primary care for. "No one does it like momma" sort of concept.

Can my wife call it babysitting when she watches our children? I am with them more and rarely go out. By definition, if you are sitting with a baby, yours or someone else's, you are babysitting. I don't care if you are the husband or the wife.
