It annoys me to all end to hear that a parent is babysitting their own kids. There needs to be a better term- having quality time with my kids so my wife/husband can have some down time sounds way better than ah man, I can't go out with the buddies, I'm stuck at home babysitting. For some reason it has a negative connotation to it when it comes from the own parent! If the wife is going out and cheating while the husband takes care of the kids, the husband is still being a father to his kids- not a babysitter. Because they are not the parents. Wouldn't you find it odd if a mother said to one of her friends that she had to go home and "babysit" her children after they get home from school? How weird. I think that's when you use the term: when you're watching kids you don't usually have primary care for. "No one does it like momma" sort of concept.
