oh my… we have talked about this before. I want pictures of your “best” wedding gift. we should all have a set of bride and groom pot holders. that to was our worst gift… why in heaven’s name do we need three sets of crocheted pot holders? the best for us was the cold, hard cash, could never have enough!

My wife didn’t share ours, but received a bride and groom set of oven mitts. The bride had a frilly dress that dangled over the stove flame and into food going in and out of the oven. We decided to circulate this through our family as a white elephant gift any time a sibling gets married.

we got a fondue thing…. it’s cool but not all that useful.
The ice cream maker is pretty sweet we got a george foreman grill… I’m trying to think of the best one though… Jack’s mom (who used to own a restaurant in Alaska) did all the food for us for free. That is probably the best wedding gift I could think of.

Best thing we got: a paid for vacation to an island vacation home another family member owns
Worst thing we got: A ceramic bird complete with “nest”. I then saw the same thing at the local craft shop in the small town my husband is from while shopping with my mother in law. It was $3. Yup. That is way worse than getting nothing (which we got a lot of as well).

Oh one more for craziest. A very cheap friend of ours stood up in another friends wedding, and his present was a budgeting software program that he had made himself on Excel. Yeah, they all come from the same cheap town.

My husband and I were given a pair of fuzzy handcuffs from a humorous friend - awkward!
We also got a set of four really, really ugly plate/bowl combo things from a store we hadn’t registered at. I looked up the store’s website to see if we could return the dishes, and lo and behold, the dishes were on clearance for about $2.00 / plate.

A used toaster, full of crumbs (no kidding). I was not the fortunate recipient.

I have the winner for worst. We got a miniature teddy bear with pierced ears. It came in the original box but it had obviously been opened quite a few times already. No card or note so it remains the anonymous gift.

Best: something both beautiful and useful - preferably something that the couple requested!
Worst: something ugly and obviously expensive, from a relative who WILL ask about it and want to see it every time they see you. AGHH!!!

We received a pinata. When we finally got around to opening it, it was filled with candy. Nothing says congratulations like a pinata filled with candy, right?!? I guess if we had been married on Cinco de Mayo or something…..

Worst gift:
My daughter was guilted into inviting a friend’s mother to her reception. The woman came with a date and gave a $20.00 check in her card. The check bounced.
I paid for both their plates, my daughter paid the $25.00 fee her bank charged, and this woman had a lovely dinner complete with cocktails and dancing…for free.

My husband and I got an ugly, plastic, Christmas ornament that was hot pink (yes, the 80’s-style hot pink) and black! It was a thick postcard, with a terrible painting of a bride and groom on one side; the other side had our names on it! So, even if we knew where it came from, we couldn’t return it because it was personalized! We put it on our tree every year and laugh.

The weirdest thing we got was this plant stand shaped like a giraffe. It was totally random. I guess it probably would have worked in some people’s homes - but not ours!

Weirdest I’ve seen: A tree. A real, live Japanese maple, which the gift-giver carted to the reception (not sure how he expected the happy couple to handle that).
One of the best I received: From the male half of that same happy couple — a painting by a member of his family which I had admired when I visited his family’s house. It is a small thing, and was completely unexpected but meant a lot to me.
Riskiest I’ve given: Yes, to the very same couple (honest, I do have other friends who have gotten married!) — Dave Ramsey books on personal finance. Don’t know if they rolled their eyes or were really appreciative.

I know this was a long time ago…but I just discovered your site and I love it. I think we have a winner for a wedding gift. My Aunt and Uncle gave us a very gaudy ugly serving platter that had someone elses last name in permanent marker on the bottom.
