My Wife Is Pregnant

Announcements You heard it here first

Several weeks ago my wife found out she was pregnant. She decided to hide this fact from me because I refuse to acknowledge pregnancies until the fourth month, just in case there is a problem.

Two weeks ago I discovered she was pregnant and asked her not to tell anyone until she went to the doctor to confirm the pregnancy. (I only buy the pregnancy tests from the Dollar Store, so I question the validity of those things). She agreed, but several days ago she confided in my brother for some reason. I was a little disappointed, and we had a “discussion” about this.

For these two reasons, I have decided to announce her pregnancy on our site. Plus it will give us plenty of topics to post about since pregnancies are always an interesting time at our house.

She is only a couple months along, so we won’t know the sex of the baby for a while. I will try and persuade her to let our faithful readers choose the name of the baby. Perhaps we can give away a prize for the winning submission.

You should also know that she has no idea this post is coming. I am at work typing this up right now. I expect a call any minute from her – but it’s drama that makes this site good, right? A good journalist has to publish the controversial. Hail to the blog!

  2. Congrats! I am pleased you two were able to pull something like this off. This blog must pull you two closer.

Anyway, my suggestion for a name is Clark. I have known many with Clark as a first name and find them to be upstanding citizens. I also might suggest Mark since there was a famous World War II general with the same name.

In the meantime, I will refer to the newly created as “The Shrimp”

  4. All true. I was actually planning to hide the pregnancy from The Donkey for the first 10 weeks or so–that way I wouldn’t be as disappointed when I was treated like nothing out of the ordinary was going on in my body (“Are you even sure you’re pregnant? You’re probably just feeling nauseous because you ate so much today.”). Unfortunately, now that I’m pregnant I can no longer donate (sell) my plasma, so the truth had to come out. As for the unauthorized post, at least now I can start publishing all the donkey dialogue quotes that I’ve been bombarded with. Wish me luck…

  8. Congratulations on the impending addition to the family! I’m very pleased for you. I have to say, though, don’t MESS with a pregnant woman. ;)

Looking forward to a lot of humor over the next several months.

  9. Nice. I’ve always like the name Chance, for girls. I like the name Alexis for girls. I sure hope I win.

  13. Oh! Yeah! Now there will be two big bellies at the reunion – and neither of them will be mine! Hooray! What’s a baby donkey called?

OK – I just googled what a baby donkey is called and came across a site that is pretty freakin’ funny when read in the context of a donkey getting a non-donkey pregnant and what kind of baby they would have.

I guess your baby could be called a foal or maybe a mule. Or maybe “sweet little angel” – but that’s not as much fun.

  17. Congats! It seems like everyone is having babies. My wife keeps bugging me about when we’re going to start our family. I keep telling her “after I get out of school, before then, I’m not even thinking about babies.”

As for names, I am fairly partial to my own Nathaniel means “Gift from God” and you can’t get much better than that. For a little girl Belinda is a combination of Bell (beautiful) and Linda (pretty). Corbin, Sebastian and Garrett, are all nice strong and unique guy names. I don’t want to give away all the good names my wife and I have come up with, we want those for our own kids. Yes, I’m a greedy, greedy name hog. :P

  18. Congrats you two. We completely missed this until after I wrote that e-mail to you just now. Our son is 4 months old now, and a true blessing. But we’re still tired anyway. LOL!

  21. Congratulations! During my last pregnancy my husband put a poll on our web page asking people to submit and vote on name ideas. I think he was trying to convince me to like the name he wanted to use. :-) We got lots of “no” votes for the names we liked, and lots of confusion among friends and family about the names that were jokes–some thought “R2D2″ and “Skeletor” (inspired by an ultrasound picture) were serious considerations. It was lots of fun, I totally recommend it.
