Dare I Ask?
Donkey: On scale of 1-10, how controversial are you feeling right now?
Wife: Um… what does that mean?
Donkey: I need to ask you about something, but I might not want to bring it up right now if you’re feeling confrontational.
Wife: Well, I am feeling a bit stressed; I don’t know, maybe an 8. Why, what do you need to ask me? …Wait, is this about the Christmas presents–it better not be.
Donkey: But you promised me those things, and you haven’t done them yet. I really want to start the guitar lessons.
Wife: Are you kidding? I have about 18,000 things on my list–do you see that big pile on the desk of stuff I’m behind on–and I just told you that I’m an 8 on the controversial scale, and you’re gonna add more stuff to my list?!
Donkey: I’m not actually adding anything. It is already on your list. I’m just trying to help you prioritize.

I would ask how she is keeping track of 18,000 things. Maybe that is why you have not gotten your presents yet. How could she remember?

If I were your wife, I would give you the guitar lessons first things, and if your anything like my husband, you would write me a love song and sing it to me over a candelit dinner. just a suggestion. *laughs* how silly leaving advice on an advice website. maybe I should start my own?

Wow…. I’m not sure if it’s comforting or disturbing to find out that other people’s husbands use the “How confrontational are you right now?” I’ve heard several variations of that from my husband.
