now i see what wife advice really means, i used to think it meant guys- don’t do these stupid things, but now i see that you have given such good advice that even your wife is taking it- so i guess wife advice is really intended to help wives do the right thing- your genius never ceases to amaze me donkey

Or, you can just avoid the whole gift-guessing kerfuffle:
Ever since way back at Year Two of conjoined domestic bliss, “He Who Hogs The Power Tools” and I have given each other absolutely nothing on the standard gift-giving occasions. Instead, we pool our pennies and splurge on things that both agree are wanted and needed. Like a new roof for the house. No stress, no one-upmanship, no marital discord… and no more water stains on the guest room wallpaper!

Um, but then, downside, that would really cut down on topic material for your extremely amusing blog!

I just think its wonderful that you both gave each other gifts, that you thought of each other. That is all that really counts, right? Imagine not getting any gifts from your sig other at all!

What’s the old expression –turnabout is fair play? I have always been taught that you should think of the other person’s preferences when choosing a gift for them. I simply listened to what The Donkey has been saying, and gave accordingly. Incidentally, the things I listed on the cards were all things The Donkey has asked me to DO recently (like setting up guitar lessons)–which is why I had to use his note card approach. As for the pots and pans, he has been complaining about our set for months, so I knew he would enjoy them.
