See, in Europe we don’t have this problem because as much, because in most homes the toilet is in a seperate room than the sink/shower/bath. So my wife can be in the shower while I’m occupied ‘elsewhere’. Took a while for me, an American, to get used to, but it’s much more logical.

My hubby and I love your blog, we have been lurkers for awhile now.
We are divided on this issue. I say yes. Sometimes it is the only time I can get my hubby’s undivided (sort of) attention. Sometimes there is a time crunch which requires multi-tasking. Other times I just go in to annoy him.
Since my hubby works at home, and we spend all (most) of our time together, he feels it is HIS time, and thus, should not be disturbed. We do have door locks, but they are never used, which to me is an invitation to enter.

I say it all depends on what type of “business” the one sitting down is doing. I quick tinkle is one thing, a nice long sit is a whole other.

as long as their is no poop or staring involved yes.

Yes, as long as it’s number 1 and not number 2. This is especially vital when the non-toilet using spouse is brushing his/her teeth, which requires breathing only through the nose.
Number 2 is best kept a solitary affair, allowing time for thought, reflection, and reading. Bathroom time is the only alone time I get all day.

Absolutely! We’re now “cleaved” together, right?

No way. That is nasty. Especially #2.

Um this is a no brainer. Of course its ok. This is where major family decisions are made. I mean is there anything better than dropping the ‘kids’ off at school and at the same time having the wife, the 2 kids, and the dog all crammed into the small bathroom at the same time? I think not.

some things can never be unseen, unsmelled, and unheard. don’t put yourself in a position to permanantly scar yourself.

Of Course!!! Otherwise I would never be able to get in the bathroom!

I think it depends on how the people in question feel about it. I don’t want my man to be in the bathroom while I’m using the toilet, period, so I make it a general rule that bathroom time is alone time; door locked, no exceptions. However, my man doesn’t seem to care. He wanders in whenever I leave the door open while I’m brushing my teeth or doing my hair to do his business. =)

I wouldn’t mind my wife hanging out to chat while I pinch one off, but she never seems to take me up on it. Her favorite time to talk is when I am trying to watch the game.

When you have ONE bathroom and a family of 4, there will be times when there’s some overlap.
I don’t think its wrong…but if you’re going to stink it up, the polite thing to do is say, “you might want to come back in a few minutes…”

Well we have celebrated 50 years of Marriage this past June and I have never been comfortable with that at all. I think that is an individual choice.

At first this really bothered me but now it’s no big deal, I mean he has to go and I have to take a shower… like the other person said, when there’s only one bathroom, there’s bound to be some overlap.

I agree that #1 is fine as long as the other person isn’t actually looking (which would be seriously creepy), but #2? No way, no how.
